Permian boys clinch third seed 

STANTON Race Herr scored 16 points to lead five Permian players in double figures as the Panthers defeated Midland High, 75-53, in a District 2-6A seeding game Friday at Stanton High School.

Tabarie Jones added 14 points, Ryale Moses and Vari Beck each had 11 and Zykivion Bryant finished with 10 as Permian clinched the district’s No. 3 seed.

The Panthers (20-12) will meet El Paso Franklin on Tuesday in a Class 6A Bi-District playoff game in El Paso.

Permian has won four straight heading into the postseason.

Midland High faces San Angelo Central at 1 p.m. Saturday at Stanton to determine the final playoff berth.

The winner of that game will travel to face El Paso Eastwood on Tuesday.

Pitching in

The Midland High and Permian soccer teams split their District 2-6A matchups, while Midland Legacy was able to earn a pair of victories.

The Midland High boys defeated Permian, 2-0, to remaining unbeaten (13-0 overall, 5-0 in district) this season.

The Permian girls matched that score in their victory against the Lady Dawgs at Ratliff Stadium.

Kelsie Fuentez and Anai Lopez both scored for the Lady Panthers.

Midland Legacy’s boys team earned a 1-0 victory against the Bronchos.

The Lady Bronchos earn a point with a 0-0 tie with the Lady Rebels, only to have the Lady Rebels win on penalty kicks, 2-1, at Astound Broadband Stadium.
