Monahans’ Maci Irons secured two regional championships at the Region I-4A Meet at Lowrey Field in Lubbock. Her wins in the discus and shot put events qualified her for the state meet May 6 in Austin. Irons won the discus event with a distance of 128 feet, 2 inches and the shot put with a distance of 43 feet, 9.5 inches.
Jozlyn Arana from Andrews also qualified for the state meet after winning the 400-meter dash, clocking in with a time of 57.64 seconds.
Wink’s Autumn Smith clinched a state qualifying spot in both the 3,200 and 1,600 by finishing in second place in both events.
Leah Acosta of Midland Lee earned a wild card spot to the meet in Austin after placing third in the discus at the Region I-6A Meet Maverick Stadium in Arlington. She had the best third-place score from all four regions to advance to state.
