Medical Center Health System, local entities to partner for Active Shooter Drill

Medical Center Health System, along with several local entities, will conduct an Active Shooter Drill on Tuesday, November 14, beginning at 9 a.m. The drill will include acting active gunmen, gunshot sounds and acting victims/casualties following a script. The public should not be alarmed, a news release said.

The drill will begin at the Wheatley Stewart Medical Pavilion, 540 W. 4th St., and then cross to the main hospital. The Emergency Department, the central elevators and several floors will all be in use for the drill, which is expected to last approximately two hours. During this time, 5th street, between N. Alleghaney Ave. and N. Washington St. will be blocked off (Please see map below) to the public. The public WILL still be able to access the Emergency Dept. at the corner of Washington and 5th street if needed and normal hospital procedures and patient care will NOT be interrupted. Patients and visitors in the hospital at the time of the drill will also be notified.

Those participating and assisting with the drill include the Odessa Police Department, ECISD Police Department, Odessa College, Odessa Fire Rescue, and Ector Co. Emergency Management.
