Woman accused of driving recklessly with child

A woman was charged Tuesday after police observed her speeding through a residential neighborhood with her 3-year-old son in an unsecured child safety seat.

Police were called about a disturbance around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 2900 block of Dawn Avenue, an Odessa Police Department news release stated.

As soon as the suspect, 24-year-old Tatyana Carnegary, saw the OPD patrol unit, she began to flee the area in an orange 2008 Jeep Liberty at a high rate of speed, the release detailed.

Carnegary sped through the neighborhood, ignoring stop signs, while her child was left unsecured in a child safety seat, the release stated, before being stopped in the 3800 block of North Dixie Boulevard.

Police charged Carnegary with endangering a child, a state jail felony, and reckless driving, a class B misdemeanor, and the release detailed the child was released to a family member after Child Protective Services was notified.

Jail records show Carnegary was taken to the Ector County Detention Center Wednesday and has two bonds totaling $15,500.
