Whataburger receipt leaves clue for police

The Odessa Police Department is on the hunt for two suspects involved in a vehicle theft, thanks to a little help from a leftover Whataburger receipt.

Police responded to the theft around 8:50 p.m. Jan. 1 in the 1800 block of Beckwood place in reference to a stolen Mitsubishi Montero, the release stated.

The release detailed the vehicle had been left outside the residence unattended with the keys in the ignition.

On Jan. 3, the vehicle was found abandoned in the west alley of the 3700 block of Dawn Avenue, with a receipt from Whataburger left inside the vehicle, the release said.

Surveillance footage on OPD’s Facebook page shows the suspects driving the stolen vehicle in the Whataburger drive-thru.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the identity of the two suspects to call Detective S. Chavez at 432-335-3347 or Odessa Crime Stoppers at 432-333-TIPS and reference case No. 18-00080.
