Man charged with stealing truck, evading police

A man was arrested Tuesday night on charges related to an April 1 theft attempt of a Ford F-150.

Ernesto Esquivel, 37, was arrested and charged with felony unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, misdemeanor evading arrest or detention and misdemeanor resisting arrest.

An Odessa police news release states that officers responded to the area of Avenue D and 11th Street on April 1 in reference to a stolen white F-150, before finding a white F-150 in the area traveling on 11th at a high rate of speed. As officers conducted a traffic stop, the driver exited the truck and fled the scene on foot.

The release states the driver was identified as Esquivel, who was found April 10 and resisted arrest but was eventually placed into custody and taken to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center.

Jail records indicate Esquivel was also charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon by the Ector County Sheriff’s Office.
