Man arrested during burglary, assault investigation

Odessa police arrested a man Sunday night in Odessa in connection with a burglary and assault investigation.

Money Joe Belcher, 32, was arrested and charged with first-degree felony ‘burglary of a habitation with intent to commit another felony,’ an Odessa police release states.

The release states officers responded to the 1600 block of East 36th Street on Sunday night, with dispatch advising that a suspect was attempting to make entry into the 31-year-old female complainant’s residence through a window. Upon arrival, the woman told police the suspect had already fled the scene, though officers observed a broken window and bodily injury to her face, neck and on both legs, the release states.

The woman identified the suspect as Belcher, saying he was known to her, detailing that Belcher entered through the window and assaulted her by placing both of his hands around her neck, before dragging her across the floor then grabbing a clothing iron and striking her in the face, the release states.

The release details that officers searched the area and located Belcher in the area of 38th Street and Dixie Boulevard, before he was charged and arrested.

Jail records indicated Belcher was still in custody as of Tuesday afternoon.
