Midland Salvation Army gets $100,000 donation

Donation will provide electricity bill payment assistance to West Texans

MIDLAND With summer heat putting additional strain on the most vulnerable Texans, TXU Energy is teaming up with The Salvation Army of Midland to provide relief.

On Tuesday, TXU Energy will present The Salvation Army with a check for $100,000 to provide Energy Aid bill payment assistance to Midland-area families.

This year, TXU Energy is celebrating 40 years of helping Texans in need through its TXU Energy Aid program. Since 1983, the program has provided $128 million in bill-payment assistance through donations from employees, customers, and the company.

In addition to the $100,000 in bill payment assistance funds, TXU Energy will sponsor The Salvation Army of Midland’s Beat the Heat Center for the third consecutive year. This cooling station is open any time temperatures reach triple digits and provides bottled water, electrolyte packs, and a safe place to stay cool. The center will be open daily through at least Labor Day.

This donation supports TXU Energy’s signature Beat the Heat program, which, for 25 years has helped thousands of Texans stay safe and cool.

“We are so grateful for the ongoing generous support and partnership of TXU Energy,” said Captain Robert Coriston, with The Salvation Army of Midland. “Their practical support makes it possible for The Salvation Army to provide emergency financial assistance to keep the power on for individuals and families struggling to pay their utility bills during the long Texas summer.”
