2 dead, 3 hurt in head-on crash

Two people were killed and three other people suffered critical injuries Sunday during a fiery collision between two trucks on NW Loop 338 in northwest Odessa.
The injured were taken to Medical Center Hospital following the head-on collision that Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Michael Herring said was reported at about 3:20 p.m.
The fiery wreck occurred between Apollo and West 87th streets. Herring said he had no information on whether the injured people included juveniles.
An Ector County Sheriff’s Deputy, Eli Rodriguez, arrived long after fire and DPS Troopers were at the scene and said he heard radio broadcasts that one of the people involved in the collision was trapped inside one of the vehicles.
“It was a head-on collision,” Rodriguez said.
It was difficult to tell apart what kind of vehicles had collided but one of them had the mangled ruins of its undercarriage on the side. The block where the collision occurred was cordoned off to passing motorists.
Odessa Fire/Rescue firefighters and DPS troopers were at the scene as a medical examiner was seen loading up one of the covered bodies to a waiting vehicle.
