Woman charged with leaving infant alone in vehicle

A 21-year-old woman was arrested after she reportedly left her 10-month-old son alone in a turned off car for 30 minutes while she took a shower.

Aleah Ramirez was charged Wednesday with abandoning a child, a state jail felony.

The 10-month-old boy was abandoned at 5:35 p.m. Wednesday at the Arbor Terrace Townhomes, an Odessa Police Department affidavit stated.

Ramirez left the boy in the vehicle with the windows cracked, the affidavit detailed. Ramirez stated to officers that she left her son the vehicle while she took a shower at her apartment.

Two witnesses reportedly saw Ramirez park her Buick Rendezvous in front of her apartment and walk inside. The witnesses heard the boy crying from the vehicle and attempted to make contact with Ramirez at her apartment, but she didn’t answer the door.

The witnesses stated Ramirez left the 10-month-old in the vehicle with no AC and the only windows that were cracked were the driver’s window and the back right passenger window, the affidavit stated. The temperature was reportedly 77 degrees Fahrenheit and little wind was blowing.

The witnesses stated the boy was inside the vehicle alone for 30 minutes before Ramirez came outside, the affidavit detailed.

Ramirez told officers she left her son in the vehicle because he was asleep and she needed to take a shower after working, the affidavit stated. Ramirez also stated she didn’t have a place to put her son in the apartment while she showered.

Ramirez was arrested, charged and transported to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center. She had one bond totaling $15,000 and was still in custody as of Thursday afternoon, jail records show.
