WOMEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: UTPB, Odessa College cruise to needed victories

The UTPB women’s basketball team snapped a five-game skid with a 78-58 victory against Cameron on Thursday at the Falcon Dome.

Morgan Helgesen scored 17 points to lead five Falcons in double figures.

Avalon Munoz had 15 points and five assists, Alexus Quaadman added 14 points and 11 rebounds, Holly Hemmeline chipped in 12 points and Makayla Bailey finished with 11.

UTPB improved to 7-9 overall, 4-6 in the Lone Star Conference.

Katie King had 11 points to lead Cameron (7-9, 4-6), with Karley Miller finishing with 10 in a losing effort.

In control 

The Odessa College women’s basketball team led from start to finish in a 78-47 victory against Western Texas College in WJCAC play Thursday at the OC Sports Center.

Nahawa Diarra Berthe and Khaniah Garner each had 14 points to lead the Lady Wranglers (9-5 overall, 2-1 in WJCAC).

Chelsy Bautista finished with 10 points and a game-high seven rebounds in tJamesha Reed scored a game-high 16 points to lead Western Texas (5-10, 0-3).

Parehuia Delamere scored 11 points in the loss.

The Lady Wranglers are off until they travel to face rival Midland College at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 23 at the Chaparral Center in Midland.
