The Permian softball team had one real chance against Monahans and the Lady Panthers capitalized on it.
Makenzie Bernal hit a three-run home run and Makayla Sanchez followed with a solo homer in the bottom of the sixth inning to lift Permian to a 4-2 victory against the Lady Loboes in nondistrict play Tuesday at the Ratliff Softball Complex.
Permian improved to 12-7-2 on the season, while Monahans dropped to 8-9.
The Lady Panthers will host Big Spring at 7 p.m. Friday at the Ratliff Softball Complex.
Monahans will host Sweetwater at 5 p.m. Friday.
The Lady Loboes scratched out a run in the first inning and freshman starter Brooke Sanchez made that stand up until the sixth.
Hilda Rayos worked a walk that got Sanchez out of the game, with sophomore Brylee Merrick moving from third base to the circle.
Merrick walked Iliana Garcia and then watched Bernal lace a line drive over the left-center field fence to put Permian in front for the first time.
Makayla Sanchez followed with the solo home run to the same spot.
Merrick cut into Permian’s lead with a solo home run in the top of the seventh but it wasn’t enough.
