MIDLAND In another chapter of the Permian-Midland Legacy rivalry series, it was the Panthers that had the final laugh.
Permian squeezed by Legacy in a 32-31 thriller Friday night at Astound Broadband Stadium in Midland.
The Panthers now move to 4-3 overall, 1-1 in District 2-6A while the Rebels. fell to 5-2, 1-1.
A late touchdown run by running back Juzstyce Lara with 10 seconds left was followed by a two-point conversion attempt in which quarterback Jackob Garcia completed a pass to Gage Murphy to put Permian ahead.
Lara finished with 153 yards rushing and three touchdowns.
The Panthers overcame an 11-point halftime deficit.
Permian will next face Wolfforth Frenship (5-2, 0-2) at 7 p.m. Oct. 20 at Ratliff Stadium.
Legacy will next face San Angelo Central (1-6, 0-2) at 7 p.m. Oct. 20 in San Angelo.
