HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Permian cancels scrimmage with Amarillo High after lightning delay

The Permian football team had its scheduled scrimmage against Amarillo High Friday canceled due to inclement weather.

The teams were originally set to play a controlled scrimmage starting at 6:30 p.m. on the Ratliff Stadium south turf field, but there was a delay after lightning was detected near the area.

The schools’ junior varsity and freshman teams were set to scrimmage at 5 p.m., but those games were quickly canceled.

The varsity scrimmage was officially canceled shortly after 8 p.m. when more thunderstorms rolled through Odessa.

Permian is set to open its season at 7 p.m. next Friday against El Paso Pebble Hills at Ratliff Stadium.
