The Lubbock Trinity inside game was just too much for the Permian boys basketball team.
Kieran Elliott scored a game-high 30 points to lead the Lions to a 75-58 victory against the Panthers in nondistrict play Tuesday at the Permian Fieldhouse.
Marcus Ramon-Edwards added 18 points, including several emphatic dunks, to the victory.
Dax Trout finished with 10 points as Lubbock Trinity improved to 4-2 on the season.
Jamibrione Anderson scored 14 points to lead Permian (4-1), with Ryale Moses and Ben Saldivar adding nine each in the loss.
Elliott scored 10 points in the first quarter, many after offensive rebounds, as the Lions ran the floor and put pressure on the Panthers, who were slow to respond.
Lubbock Trinity led by eight (21-13) after eight minutes, maintained the margin at halftime (35-27), extended the lead to nine (53-44) after three quarters and dominated the fourth quarter.
Elliott added 11 points in the final eight minutes.
“They ran the floor well,” Permian coach Steven Flores said of the Lions. “We are usually the ones running the floor and putting pressure on other teams, but they (Trinity) did a good job; it was something we hadn’t seen this season.
“Elliott is a D1 player and No. 23 (Ramon-Edwards) is going to play football in college; so they are good players. We let them get the lead early and then couldn’t catch up.”
