Bailey Wight and Kimora Pierce each scored 14 points to lead the Permian girls basketball team to a 47-25 victory against Lamesa on Tuesday at the Permian Fieldhouse.
Avika Brown and Briseyda Sanchez both finished with eight points as the Lady Panthers evened their record (5-5) after the nondistrict contest.
“I thought the girls played better,” Permian head coach Michael Ellis said. “Bailey had a good night and when she plays well, the team plays well.
“We’ve been playing better recently, so that’s nice. And we are going to a player back next week that will help us, too.”
Reagan Derington and Mya Correjo each scored five points to lead Lamesa.
Wight opened the game strong, scoring six points in the first quarter to help Permian to an 11-6 lead after eight minutes.
Pierce took over the second quarter, scoring seven points, as the Lady Panthers raced to a 19-point lead (30-11) after halftime.
Lamesa tried to climb back into the game in the third quarter, scoring the first six points to cut into the Lady Panthers’ lead (30-17).
Permian didn’t score after the break until Wight converted a steal with a fast-break layup with 2:03 remaining in the third quarter.
She added another fast break layup, Pierce went baseline-to-baseline for a layup and then Wight connected on a 12-foot jumper, all within 60 seconds to put the Lady Panthers back in control.
