Panthers keep streak alive

Sebastian Bravo recorded three RBIs to help the Permian baseball team defeat Midland High 11-2 Tuesday at McCanlies Field.

After building up a 6-2 lead through the game’s first four innings, the Panthers scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth to put the District 2-6A contest out of reach.

Landry Walls and John Langehennig recorded one RBI each for the Bulldogs.

Caleb Boswell pitched a complete game for the Panthers, allowing five hits and two runs while striking out seven.

Permian (18-3 overall, 7-0 district) will face Midland High in the second game of their three-game series at 6 p.m. Friday at Zachery Field in Midland.

Bounce back

MIDLAND The Odessa High baseball team snapped a three-game skid with an 11-4 victory over Midland Legacy in District 2-6A play Tuesday at Ernie Johnson Field.

Odessa High had a two-run advantage before bringing in five insurance runs in the top of the seventh.

The Bronchos recorded nine hits as a team, with David Sanchez’s three RBIs leading the way.

Ricardo Campos and Isaac Rodriguez split pitching duties for Odessa High, with Rodriguez striking out four batters in four innings of action.

Odessa High (10-9-1 overall, 2-5 district) will host Midland Legacy for the second of their three games at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Pressly Field.

Walk-off

The Permian softball team was in an offensive battle in District 2-6A play against San Angelo Central, ultimately coming away with a 15-14 win Tuesday at the Ratliff Softball Complex.

Both teams combined for 28 hits in the contest, tying the score at 14-14 before Alexis Belen went up to bat in the bottom of the seventh.

Belen helped the Lady Panthers secure the victory with a walk-off single.

It was Permian’s second win in its last three contests, bouncing back from its recent loss to Midland High.

The Lady Panthers (16-10 overall, 2-3 district) will host Coahoma in nondistrict action at noon Saturday at the Ratliff Softball Complex.

Strong win

ABILENE Jumping out to a big lead early helped the Odessa High softball team defeat Abilene High 8-6 in District 2-6A play Tuesday on the road.

After falling behind by two runs, the Lady Bronchos scored six runs in the top of the second to jump ahead.

Odessa High brought in two more runners in the eighth, which was enough to hold off a rally from the Lady Eagles.

Diveli Cherry and Nivea Saenz led Odessa High with two RBIs each in the victory.

The Lady Bronchos (8-6-1 overall, 2-2 district) will host Wolfforth Frenship at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Ratliff Softball Complex.
