HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL: Panthers shut out Bulldogs to open series

EL PASO The Permian baseball team put together a strong performance in its playoff opener as it defeated El Paso Socorro 11-0 in Game 1 of a Class 6A bi-district series Thursday at Chris Forbes Field.

Ashton Coats and Cooper Golden combined to allow just three hits and six strikeouts to lead the Panthers (26-7).

Teo Banks, Jake Glasman and Xavier Melendez all homered for the Panthers with Banks adding a triple and Caleb Boswell hitting a pair of doubles.

Game 2 of the series is set for noon Saturday at McCanlies Field with Game 3, if necessary, to follow 30 minutes after.
