COLLEGE SOFTBALL: Falcons fall in doubleheader against Texas A&M International

LAREDO The UTPB softball team was swept in a Lone Star Conference doubleheader against Texas A&M International Sunday, falling 5-2 and 8-4.

The Falcons faced a 3-0 deficit at the end of the first inning, but made a dent with two runs scored on an RBI single from Sydney Bishop in the top of the second.

Texas A&M International increased its lead with a run scored in the bottom of the frame, adding one more in the bottom of the sixth.

Lani Graft gave UTPB a 1-0 lead to start the second game with an RBI single, but the Dustdevils responded with a two-run homer from Heather Ruiz.

Texas A&M International added three unanswered runs through the second and third innings before the Falcons brought in three in the fourth and fifth frames.

A three-run sixth inning helped the Dustdevils secure the sweep.

UTPB (16-21 overall, 3-13 conference) is on a 12-game losing streak and will host a doubleheader against St. Mary’s starting at 3 p.m. Friday at UTPB Field.
