COLLEGE BASEBALL: UTPB closes out series against UT Tyler with a loss

TYLER The UTPB baseball team couldn’t come away with a series split against UT Tyler in Lone Star Conference play, falling by a 14-4 score Sunday on the road.

Garret Thornton gave the Faclons an early lead with a solo home run in the top of the first, but the Patriots brought in three runs in the bottom of the frame.

Gabriel Melendez helped UTPB cut into the deficit when he reached home on an error in the third.

That didn’t help the Falcons, as UT Tyler outscored them 11-2 after bringing in two in the bottom of the third.

UTPB (7-22 overall, 6-22 conference) picked up a 7-2 victory over the Patriots Saturday in seven innings.
