COLLEGE BASKETBALL: UTPB wins Lone Star Conference opener with buzzer-beater

AUSTIN The UTPB men’s basketball team won its Lone Star Conference opener 66-65 over St. Edward’s Sunday on the road.

UTPB trailed the Hilltoppers by two points at the end of the first half and played from behind until the game’s final minutes.

The Falcons went on a 10-0 run to take a 64-63 lead with 32 seconds left in regulation, but they lost the advantage when St. Edward’s Daniel Venzant hit a jump shot with 10 seconds left.

Miles Daniels made a jumper of his own to beat the buzzer and give the Falcons their first conference victory of the 2021-22 season.

Daniels led UTPB with 15 points scored, while Jordan Horn and Lemmie Howard contributed 13 each.

The Falcons (9-3 overall, 1-0 LSC) continue conference play against Angelo State at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Falcon Dome.
