Alzheimer’s Association invites Permian Basin residents to join 2023 Walk to End Alzheimer’s

MIDLAND The Alzheimer’s Association is inviting Permian Basin residents to join the fight to end Alzheimer’s by participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Saturday, September 16, at Scharbauer Sports Complex, 5514 Champions Dr., in Midland.

On Walk day, participants honor those affected by Alzheimer’s with the poignant Promise Garden ceremony — a mission-focused experience that signifies our solidarity in the fight against the disease. The colors of the Promise Garden flowers represent people’s connection to Alzheimer’s — their personal reasons to end the disease.

“We’re closer than ever to stopping Alzheimer’s,” said Mary Wright-McCourt, Walk Chair, in a press release. “We hope that everyone in our community can join us by starting a team to help the Alzheimer’s Association raise awareness and funds for families facing the disease today, take more steps toward treatments and finally ending this disease.”

“As the local presenting sponsor, Manor Park is committed to impacting the lives of individuals affected by Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia,” Stephen Nelson, President & CEO, The Village at Manor Park, said in the release. “We take great pride in our involvement as the local presenting sponsor for the Permian Basin Walk to End Alzheimer’s, driven by our firm belief in the transformative power of unity. Our mission is to work hand-in-hand with the community to pave the way for a brighter future for those facing the challenges of this condition. Together, we strive to make a difference, fostering hope and supporting families on their journey with compassion and dedication.”

More than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease – a leading cause of death in the United States. Additionally, more than 11 million family members and friends provide care to people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias.

In Texas alone, there are more than 400,000 people living with the disease and over 1,000,000 caregivers.
