LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Vote Yes for the ECISD Bond

As we approach the date to provide a vote of yes for the ECISD Bond. I am reminded of a story I read a few years ago. The story, “A Starfish Story” was written by Loren Eisely an American educator and philosopher.

Starfish Story:

One day a man was walking along the beach where he noticed a boy picking something up and gently throwing it back into the ocean. Approaching the boy, he asked, “What are you doing?” The youth replied, “Throwing starfish back into the ocean. The surf is up, and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die!” “So” the man said, “don’t you realize there are miles and miles of beach and hundreds of starfish? You can’t make a difference!” After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish, and threw it back into the surf. Then smiling at the man, he said…

“I made a difference for that one.”

The Ector County School District makes a difference for students every single day, from feeding our kids to providing a safe learning environment for them to learn. Is our school district perfect? No, it’s not, however, our district strives for excellence every single day. What is the definition of excellence? “Always striving to improve”. Our school district has done that, and it continues to improve. A perfect example of that improvement was the recent ECISD announcement that a record number of ECISD students earned national recognition through the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Program. What a great accomplishment for these students. These accomplishments don’t occur by chance but by way of the choice and decisions made by our students, dedicated teachers, administrators, staff, bus drivers, maintenance, cafeteria employees and board members to always strive for Excellence!

“Excellence is never an accident. It is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, and intelligent execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives – choice, not chance determines your destiny.” – Aristotle

Our school district and students deserve our help. Remember, The School District belongs to us. We will be held accountable for its future and our student’s future based on the Choice we make today. My hope is that we vote for what’s best for the children of Ector County. We can’t change the past, but we certainly can impact the future for our students.

As citizens of Ector County, we have an opportunity to help make a positive difference for thousands of students within our school district by supporting the ECISD Bond and Voting Yes, for Proposition A, Voting Yes for Proposition B and Voting Yes for Proposition C. The students of Ector County are depending on us. Hope you take the opportunity to make a difference by making a Wise Choice.

Early Voting Starts October 23-31 and November 1-3. Election Day is Tuesday, November 7th, 2023, from 7 A.M. – 7 P.M.

Kind Regards,
