We shouldn’t be having this conversation: Whether or not the Ector County Republican Party leadership should permit the election of the County Chair by citizen voters.
It’s a no brainer, especially for an organization whose purpose is to promote and support free and fair elections.
The fact that the County and Precinct Chairs have not clearly and unanimously endorsed such a fundamental democratic process is troubling, but there is still time to do the right thing. Deadlines are coming for assembling a slate of candidates and having ballots prepared. The ECRP is well experienced in doing this.
Most importantly, Ector County voters deserve it.
