LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Falcons, Bonds and Oil Show make Odessa Great

Wow Odessa, talk about a bunch going on. Don’t look now but your UTPB Fighting Falcon Football team is 7-1 and leading the always tough Lonestar Conference this week and the best news of all is UTPB got its first ever national ranking inside the Top 20 from the NCAA Division II Coaches. What an achievement. If you haven’t caught their exciting action, please come to one of their two remaining home games (with one tonight in Midland) as these kids and their coach are truly special.

Speaking of special, Odessa and Ector County can do some much needed repairs to our aging local school system. The bonds will come with an A, B and C proposition which to me are all desperately needed. With our oil industry in West Texas looking more and more positive in future years, let’s please give these kids the adequate facilities they need for our ever-growing town to be proud of. Best yet is the tax rate will not be going up if these bonds pass due to good financial stewarding by the school district over the past few years. Permian and OHS will both benefit from this bond proposal pretty much equally, which was very smart of this bond committee to understand. Please go out and vote yes for all 3 propositions now as early voting has already begun!

And finally, thank you Odessa and West Texas for a fabulous outpouring of food, fellowship, and fun at our 2023 Permian Basin International Oil Show this past week. An oil show that has been running since 1940. This show could not have been made possible without the stewardship of Tony Fry and his staff along with the 170 plus board of director members that make it a success. This show truly makes Odessa, and our people, shine for one week every two years so kudos to all of you that were involved in some way.
