GUEST VIEW: HR 1 makes energy top priority of Congress

When I came to Congress, I made it my mission to spread the word about the Permian Basin—the heartbeat of American energy—and the largest secure supply of oil and gas in the world.

I am incredibly proud to represent the men and women of the Permian Basin, who have revolutionized the way we produce energy to provide us with an incredible national security and economic asset.

Unfortunately, President Biden has demonized these very people and the job that they’re doing to provide affordable, reliable energy to the United States and our friends around the world. From his policies like killing the Keystone XL pipeline and shutting down drilling permitting while begging foreign dictators to produce more oil, to his rhetoric in literally promising to “end fossil fuels,” he has used every tool in his belt to build a bureaucracy that is completely opposed to American-made energy.

His policies have driven energy costs and inflation through the roof. Americans are being forced to pay 40% more on gasoline since President Biden took office and 20-30% more on their electricity bills.

And it’s all in the name of the climate crusade, which can’t even come close to what the Permian Basin is already accomplishing through production of clean, affordable, reliable energy. Over the past 10 years, we’ve brought down methane emissions by almost 15% while increasing production by over 50%. No government mandate could even touch that level of efficiency.

Democrats and President Biden have slandered and vilified what they call “Big Oil.” This Big Oil Boogeyman they talk about doesn’t exist. As those who actually live and work in the Permian Basin know, 90% of our energy is produced by small, independent producers and very small companies who employ 10, 20, or 30 employees.

When Democrats and the administration blame “Big Oil,” they’re talking about millions of families in our district and throughout the United States that make a good living and put food on their tables while providing us with an incredible tool for National Security.

House Republicans are delivering on our promises to restore American energy dominance.

We recently passed H.R. 1, The Lower Energy Costs Act, which affirms that energy is the number one priority of this Congress. H.R. 1 is a complete rejection of the Biden Administration’s anti-energy policies. We are fighting back against the President’s attacks by boosting oil & gas production in America to stop runaway inflation and make sure the U.S. is not reliant on other countries for energy.

I am extremely proud to have worked on this legislation that includes my provisions to strike President Biden’s natural gas and implement timelines for the EPA’s evaluation of states’ Class VI wells primacy applications.

House Republicans committed to making energy security and restoring American energy dominance our top priority. Passing H.R.1 is a promise kept.
