OC chooses downtown project contractor

The Odessa College Board of Trustees chose low bidder JC Roberts Construction as the general contractor for OC’s downtown project at 222 E. Fourth St. during a special meeting Wednesday.

The base bid was $2,977,240. Architect Cruz Castillo, president of JSA Architects, said the company said it would take eight months, but they think it could be 10.

Phase I will be a large green space, the two performance canopies, the entryway, the splash pad, the restrooms and other items.

“So the main thing there is we are on budget. We have a contractor who is committing to eight months of construction to get us to substantial completion. So if we are able to move forward with approval this evening, we will have our project up and functioning next summer,” Castillo said.

The project will probably start within the next 30 days.
