Board to consider OC Promise Program

The Odessa College Board of Trustees will meet at 5 p.m. Monday in the Zant Community Room of the Saulsbury Campus Center, 200 W. University Blvd.

Among the items the board will consider is approval of the Odessa College Promise Program.

The program is aimed at first-time, full-time college students beginning in 2024.

“It is a last dollar in scholarship opportunity for the Class of 2024, so it is open to those graduating seniors that will be part of the Class of ‘24 that will be first-time-in-college students beginning in summer, or August 2024. It will cover tuition and fees,” Vice President for Academic Partnerships Jonathan Fuentes said in an Odessa American article from early January.

Vice President of Student Services Kim McKay said the program has been implemented nationwide and has improved first-time-in-college going rates and graduation rates.

Some of the other items on the agenda are:

  • Appointment of a vice chair.
  • Consider and approve changes to board policy.
  • Tuition and fee changes for 2022-23.
  • An education report on the Odessa College Honors Program.
  • An institutional effectiveness report.
  • A Vision 2030+ update.
  • The President’s report from President Gregory Williams on Seba Gultekin being appointed to serve on the Texas Transfer Advisory Committee Subcommittee on Sociology; Black History Month activities; DREAM 2022 Conference updates; Positive OC; and Allisa Cornelius named dean of the School of Health Science.

The board will also have a special meeting at 4 p.m. Tuesday for training.
