Watch out! Crashes all over Odessa today

So far this morning there have been roughly 30 crashes on Odessa roads and the Odessa Police Department is asking everyone to be careful.

According to OPD, roads are expected to remain slick and people should use “extreme caution” while traveling on Interstate 20, Highway 80 and Highway 191.

If you must travel, officials said people should reduce their speed, maintain a safe distance to the vehicle in front of them should they have to stop suddenly. In addition, people should use their headlights, leave early and be careful while traveling on overpasses and underpasses.

They also said people should avoid using cruise control and if they go into a skid they should ease off the gas.

Some traffic lights aren’t working so if people should encounter them, treat them as a four-way stop.

Odessa Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Quentin Dobmeier said OFR has responded to multiple wrecks this morning, but none of them were major in nature.

“They’ve been all over – city streets, the interstate, the Loop, 385, basically all of the thoroughfares,” Dobmeier said.
