Oncor suing following wreck

Oncor Electric Delivery Company has filed a lawsuit over a crash that caused more than $17,000 in damages to one of its utility poles.

According to the lawsuit filed in Ector County Court-at-Law Friday, Norma E. Romero of Chaparral, N.M., loaned her car to a unknown man who collided with a utility pole at West 10th Street and Whitaker Avenue while “driving recklessly and incompetently” on Jan. 29, 2021.

The lawsuit alleges Romero and “John” Doe did not notify the police or Oncor about the damage and fled the scene.

“Romero’s vehicle struck the property with such force and speed that it caused severe damage to the property and required repair,” the lawsuit stated. “Specifically, Oncor contracted to repair the property for a total cost of $17,016.81, the amount of damages for which Oncor brings this lawsuit as detailed herein.”
