Two men killed in separate rollovers

Two men were killed in separate roll-over crashes Thursday morning.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Kevin Alexander Perez-Viera, 23, of Hobbs, N.M. was traveling west on State Highway 302 in a Chevrolet Camaro when he failed to control his speed and struck the back of a tractor-trailer around 1:30 a.m. and rolled.

Perez-Viera, who wasn’t wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at Winkler County Hospital.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 30-year-old man from Zempoala, Mexico, was not hurt.

According to DPS, Rodney James Porter, 28, of Odessa was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe east on State Highway 158 when he attempted to pass a Ford F-150 in a no-passing zone around 7:30 a.m. Thursday. He didn’t have room to complete the pass so he hit the Ford, lost control and rolled multiple times 12 miles northeast of Odessa.

Porter, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at Medical Center Hospital.

The 33-year-old driver of the Ford, a man from Hurst, wasn’t hurt.
