Three killed, three injured in FM1788 crash

Three men were killed and three people were injured in a two-vehicle crash 10 miles north of Gardendale early Sunday morning.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, two Ford F-250s were traveling in opposite directions on FM 1788 when one of them veered into the opposing lanes and hit the other around 3:15 a.m.

Leopoldo Arreola, 40, of Midland, who was driving the truck that veered into the northbound lanes, was killed, according to DPS. Also killed were the driver of the other truck, Alfredo Cuellar, 21, of Laredo and one of his two passengers, Arnoldo Torres, 21, of San Antonio.

Cuellar’s other passenger, a 22-year-old man from Laredo, was treated at Permian Basin Regional Medical Center and released.

Arreola’s passengers, two boys ages 9 and 14, were taken to Midland Memorial Hospital in stable condition.

Two out of three of the men killed were not wearing seat belts and all three of those injured were.
