Three crashes kill one, critcally injure two

A 19-year-old woman is in critical condition after a three-vehicle crash near Highway 80 and Faudree Road Wednesday.

According to the City of Odessa, the woman was traveling east on Highway 80 and failed to yield the right of way while trying to turn north on to Faudree Road. As a result, a Buick Enclave being driven by a 23-year-old man west on Highway 80 struck the woman’s Honda Civic and and then a Chevrolet Equinoix being driven by a 55-year-old woman waiting to turn east onto the highway from southbound Faudree. The Buick rolled into a ditch.

The teenager was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but the other two drivers sustained non-life-threatening injuries, according to the city.

While officers were still investigating the crash, a 48-year-old man traveling south on Faudree in a Dodge Ram tried to turn east onto the highway, but made an improper turn and crashed into an unoccupied OPD patrol car that had its flashing lights on. He wasn’t hurt, but he was cited for improper turn and failure to display a driver’s license.

Odessa police are also continuing to investigate Wednesday’s death of Jaden Woods, 21.

According to the city, Woods was on foot when he was struck by a Ford Explorer that was traveling north in the 3000 block of North JBS Parkway and merging into the left turn lane around 6:40 p.m.

Woods’ death came just one day after another pedestrian, Kevin Gandy, 59, was critically injured when he was struck by a vehicle near University and Grandview.

Gandy was taken to Medical Center Hospital and later air-lifted to Lubbock with life-threatening injuries.
