The Bible’s Journey into Our Hands

The Rev. Dr. Joe Weaks, co-pastor of Connection Christian Church in Odessa, has a Ph.D. in New Testament and reads the Bible in its original languages nearly every day.

While he taught courses in colleges and seminaries, Weaks’ first love was teaching people in congregations more about the Bible they cherish. That’s why Connection Christian Church is offering a special opportunity to learn from Weaks.

They are offering a free, four-week course titled, “The Bible’s Journey into Our Hands.” Starting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, this study will explore the journey of the Bible, from the time of its writing, to being collected, copied, printed, and eventually translated into other languages.

Questions covered will include: When and where were Bible books written? How was scripture first copied and passed on? What moves us from the various surviving copies to our current Bible text? How do translation decisions affect how we interpret scripture?

The public is invited. For questions, call 432-332-2954.
