Texas Rangers investigating DUI suspect’s death

The Texas Rangers are investigating the death of a 50-year-old woman who died in police custody following a driving under the influence arrest.

According to the Odessa Police Department, officers responded to a crash in the 2700 block of Eisenhower around 11 pm. Thursday and determined the crash was alcohol-related.

Before booking Teresa Garcia into the Ector County jail for driving under the influence, officers realized she needed medical attention and she was taken to Medical Center Hospital.

According to OPD, Garcia experienced medical difficulties and became unresponsive at the hospital and died.

As per the Code of Criminal Procedure 49.18(b), the Odessa Police Department will file a report with the Attorney General’s office regarding this incident.
