The Odessa Police Department held a wreath laying ceremony to honor Officer Scott Smith Tuesday. Smith was just 25 years old when he was responding to a burglary call and was involved in a motorcycle accident as an OPD officer, 36 years ago. Two days after the accident, his wife found out that she was pregnant with their second child. He spent six months on life support before passing away. Smith grew up in Hobbs, N.M., and graduated Hobbs High School in 1980.
