WASHINGTON, D.C. House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Counterterrorism, Law Enforcement, and Intelligence Chairman August Pfluger (R-TX) Jan. 17 delivered the following opening statement in a hearing to examine the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) role in combating transnational repression in the United States.
Chairman Pfluger was pleased to invite Midlander Dr. Bob Fu, the Founder and President of the China Aid Association, to testify before the subcommittee.
“Brazen intimidation by nation states or their proxies on U.S. soil is a clear threat to our homeland security and cannot be ignored by this administration,” Pfluger said in a news release. “Transnational repression is when authoritarian regimes like the Chinese Communist Party or Iran or others go beyond their borders to harass and silence their citizens and others who defend human rights and advocate for free speech. Midlander Bob Fu is a victim of these intimidation tactics, and I am grateful that he bravely chose to come before the subcommittee and testify about his experiences.”
In his opening statement, Dr. Bob Fu said: “Since President Xi Jinping took power, the CCP’s repression against religious freedom, human rights and rule of law in China has reached to the worst level since the brutal dictator Chairman Mao’s Cultural Revolution time in 1960s. With Xi and CCP’s publicly stated goal of global expansion and its strategy of “unrestricted warfare” against the free world especially the USA, the transnational repression and threats has been growing rapidly in the past few years.”
