This fall, Basin PBS is giving you the opportunity to join them on Sept. 30, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Centennial Park Midland, for the Basin PBS Heritage Festival – A Fusion of Culture!

Basin PBS is putting on this first Heritage Festival to highlight and celebrate all the different cultures present here in the Basin.

“In 2022 we did a four-part docuseries called ‘Our City Our Stories’ which was focused on the diversity of Midland and the people that grew up here,” Laura Wolf, Basin PBS CEO, said. “It was very well received and people wanted to continue the discussion so we actually decided to do the first ever Heritage Festival here in Midland to continue the discussion and bring cultures together to celebrate our differences but also celebrate our likenesses.”

Engulf yourself into the diverse cultures right here in the Permian Basin.

“What we are wanting them to show is traditional pottery and we have an outdoor stage where everyone that signs up would have the opportunity to participate and perform,” Carma-Lynn Muscroft with Basin PBS said.

Wolf said it will be a night filled with food, art, clothing and paintings brought by participating groups showcasing and selling their beautiful crafts.

The group hopes to have 28-40 different booths from cultural organizations here in the Permian Basin.

Those that stick around can also see Los Lonely Boys return to the Permian Basin at 7 p.m. for a free concert on the Centennial Park stage.

“Well, we are so excited because everything’s free all day including the concert that night and we wanted to bring in someone that represented a different culture and they’re from up the road in San Angelo,” Wolf said. “San Angelo is like 100 miles away but you know West Texas is so big and it’s a long way between towns that we all kind of feel like there are neighbors you know anywhere 100 miles or less we’re neighbors.”

Los Lonely Boys is known for their 2004 hit Heaven, which peaked at 16 on the Billboard Top 100 charts.

“I think it is wonderful that we are bringing them in as our neighbor and to celebrate West Texas with this free concert.” Muscroft said.
