OPD seizes 14 grams of cocaine, makes arrest

A traffic violation led to the arrest early Monday morning of an Odessa man on a felony drug charge.

According to the Odessa Police Department, an officer saw Fabian Ortiz come out of the Whataburger parking lot on East Eighth Street around 3:20 a.m. without stopping and pulled him over.

After smelling marijuana, the officer said he and other officers searched Ortiz’s vehicle and found 14 grams of cocaine.

Ortiz admitted the cocaine was his and said he was trying to make “fast cash” by selling it, the report stated.

Ortiz was arrested on suspicion of manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance, a first-degree felony punishable by five years to life in prison.

He remained in the Ector County jail Monday night.
