Odessa man facing sexual assault charge

A 19-year-old Odessa man was booked into the Ector County jail early Tuesday 10 days after a 14-year-old girl reported he sexually assaulted her.

According to an Odessa Police Department report, officers were told on March 9 about a sexual encounter between the girl and the 19-year-old.

On March 14, the girl told a forensic interviewer she skipped two periods of school one day in February and went to Nishant Singh’s house on West 5th Street. According to the report, the girl said they began to kiss and when he began to go further, he refused her demands to stop.

She told officers they both returned to school that afternoon although she was in pain, the report stated.

During a forensic medical exam on March 15, a sexual assault nurse examiner observed evidence of sexual contact and the girl was diagnosed with an infection, the report stated.

School attendance records confirmed the pair missed school in the morning and returned in the afternoon on Feb. 6, the report stated.

Singh was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault of a child. He remained in custody Tuesday night on a $25,000 surety bond.
