Man charged with intoxication assault after swerving into pickup

A 22-year-old man was arrested after he reportedly swerved across the double yellow lines before colliding with a pickup.

Daniel Lopez Jr. was charged Saturday with intoxication assault causing serious bodily injury, third-degree felony.

The reported assault happened at 3:02 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of 42nd Street and Tanglewood Lane, the Odessa Police Department press release stated.

Lopez Jr. was reportedly driving a black Chevrolet Equinox west on 42nd Street, while 34-year-old Daniel Trevino of Odessa was traveling in a white Chevrolet Silverado east on 42nd Street.

Witnesses reported that Lopez Jr. was traveling a high rate of speed and swerved across the double yellow lines before colliding with the Silverado, the release detailed. Trevino was transported to Medical Center Hospital with life-threatening injuries. There were no reports of any other injuries.

Lopez Jr. was arrested, charged and transported to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center. He had one bond totaling $25,000 and he posted bail on Sunday, jail records show.
