Man charged following DPS sting

A Texas Department of Public Safety probable cause affidavit detailed a 43-year-old man was arrested as part of a sting operation after he attempted to a solicit DPS agents posing as a 14-year-old girl.

Juan Angel Galvan was charged with online solicitation of a minor, a second-degree felony.

The probable cause affidavit stated on Jan. 10 that DPS CID Special Agents were conducting an undercover solicitiation sting posing as a 14-year-old girl. Galvan responded to an advertistment posted on the internet.

Galvan agreed to meet the undercover agent who was posing a 14-year-old girl to engage in sexual conduct, the affidavit stated. Galvan responded to the undercover agent’s advertisement on text messages using the MeetMe application.

DPS says that Galvan continued the conversation through text messages until Feb. 4. During the conversations, the undercover agent posing as a 14-year-old girl told Galvan “well im only 14 but im almost 15 tho.” Galvan stated “Im 42” and “Yes hun..its gonna be our secret.”

At 9:41 p.m. Feb. 4, Galvan arrived at a predetermined location to meet what he believed was a 14-year-old girl for the purposes of sex, the affidavit stated. Troopers placed Galvan under arrest.

During an interview, Galvan made statements against his penal interest stateing that he knew that the child was 14 and they talked about sex and he knew it was illegal to talk to someone underage about sex.

Galvan was arrested and booked into the Ector County Law Enforcement Center on Feb. 5, jail records show. He had one bond totaling $25,000 and he posted bail on Feb. 6.
