Man accused of running over girlfriend

A 22-year-old Odessa man was arrested early Sunday morning after his girlfriend told police he ran her over with a Buick during an argument.

According to an Odessa Police Department report, dispatchers received multiple 911 calls around 2:30 a.m. Sunday from people reporting a woman was in the street in the 900 block of West 30th screaming for help.

When officers arrived, the 22-year-old woman told officers she and James Ryan Castillo had been arguing because he believed she’d been unfaithful and when he went to leave, she stood outside the driver’s side door and begged him to stay, the report stated.

She continued to plead with Castillo after he told her to move and he eventually drove away, running over both of her legs, the report stated. The woman said he tried to return to check on her, but he left because she was so angry with him.

Officers observed tire marks and wounds consistent with the woman’s story, the report stated. Investigators said it doesn’t appear as though he called 911 about the incident.

Castillo was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault, a second-degree felony punishable by two to 20 years in prison. He was released from the Ector County jail after posting a $20,000 surety bond.
