Man accused of purposely crashing into HEB

An Odessa man is facing multiple charges after police said he intentionally crashed into the HEB on 42nd Street and fought with a security guard.

According to the Odessa Police Department, officers received a call about a major crash at the store at 11:30 p.m. Saturday. When they arrived, they discovered Gonzolo Armendariz had crashed his Toyota Pathfinder through the main entrance of the grocery store causing $50,000 worth of damage and that he then fought with the security guard.

Officers also learned an intoxicated and armed Armendariz pulled a fire alarm, an OPD news release stated.

Armendariz was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, unlawfully carrying a weapon, false alarm, assault on a security officer, criminal mischief $30,000-$150,000 and assault causing bodily injury.

Armendariz was released from the Ector County jail Sunday after posting surety bonds totaling $46,500.
