Kermit man dies in two-vehicle collision

A 32-year-old Kermit man died in a two-vehicle collision west of Odessa.

The reported fatal collision happened at 10:10 p.m. Sept. 12 about 16 miles west of Odessa on State Highway 302, a Texas Department of Public Safety press release stated.

Octavia N. Petty, 18, of Odessa was reportedly driving a 2003 Buick west on State Highway 302, while Rodolfo Lopez-Ramirez, 32, of Kermit was driving east on State Highway 302 in a 2008 Dodge Durango.

The Buick failed to drive in a single lane, crossed the center median and collided with the Durango head-on, the affidavit stated. Petty was transported to Medical Center Hospital with incapacitating injuries, while Lopez-Ramirez was also transported to Medical Center Hospital where he was pronounced dead by Dr. Shipkey.

Petty was wearing a seatbelt, while Lopez-Ramirez wasn’t wearing a seatbelt.
