Jealous husband arrested on assault charge

An Odessa man was arrested on an aggravated assault charge Thursday after his wife told police he threatened to kill her after finding her lover in their home.

According to an Odessa Police Department report, officers received a shots fired call from the 1000 block of Coronado Avenue around 8:15 p.m. Thursday.

When officers arrived, a woman told officers she’d had her lover over to her house while her husband, Jose Alberto Garcia, went to the park with their kids, the report stated.

She said Garcia came home as she and her lover were talking and Garcia began assaulting the man, the report stated. After her boyfriend fled the house, the woman said her husband grabbed his gun from his truck, told her to go back inside the house or else he’d shoot her.

When officers spoke with Garcia, he admitted to assaulting the other man, firing a bullet into the air as the other man ran away and telling his wife to go back inside the house, the report stated.

However, Garcia denied threatening to kill his wife, the report stated.

Garcia was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and discharging a firearm within certain municipalities.

He was released from the Ector County jail after posting surety bonds totaling $26,500.
