Game rooms back on city agenda

The Odessa City Council will discuss public art projects, game rooms and potential pay raises for city employees at today night’s council meeting.

The agenda for the 6 p.m. City Hall meeting details that the council will be asked to consider four options regarding the pay increases. They could provide a one-time payment for all regular full-time employees and a 5% increase for first responders, a 4% increase for all employees, a one-time payment of $1,500 or $1,750 for full-time employees or a one-time payment of $1,250 to all full-time employees and a percentage increase for the remainder of the fiscal year.

The council will also be asked to approve art work for the new Fire Station No. 6, the new animal control shelter and the Lee Street Building complex.

In addition, the council is also expected to consider buying new equipment for the new No. 6 and No. 9 fire stations: 20 portable radios ($221,047), new bunker gear ($161,200), eight self-contained breathing apparatus ($221,047), an air compressor ($59,000) and six new specially equipped Chevy Tahoes ($423,907).

The council will also hear from the city’s legal department about proposed changes to the game room ordinances. Ector County has amended their ordinance and city and county attorneys have been negotiating about an interlocal agreement that would tighten oversight of game rooms.
