Food FARMacy launches

Midland Health and West Texas Food Bank have announced a partnership to implement a plant-forward food program for those with serious illnesses.

The Food FARMacy program is referral-based when patients are admitted to the hospital with illnesses like diabetes or heart disease. During a patient’s stay at the hospital, a social worker will provide information about their eligibility to attend the Food FARMacy and its benefits.

The Food FARMacy is open to referred patients twice a month at the Midland West Texas Food Bank.

Once the patient arrives, they will learn a new plant-forward recipe and be able to shop at the Food FARMacy. The Food FARMacy allows those with chronic illnesses to learn how healthy foods can support and nourish their bodies for improved health outcomes.

The Food FARMacy program hopes to encourage healthy eating habits and promote patients advocating for their health.
