Estranged husband accused of pipe attack

An Odessa man was arrested early Tuesday morning after his estranged wife told police he attacked her with a metal pipe in a fit of jealousy. He’s also accused of attacking her new boyfriend’s truck with the same pipe.

According to an Odessa Police Department report, dispatchers received multiple 911 calls from people reporting a disturbance involving a man with a baseball bat in the 7300 block of West Pile Ranch Road.

When officers arrived, a woman told them her husband, Nicholas Ward, showed up with a metal pipe and tried to get to her boyfriend, the report stated. She said Ward struck her in the privates with the pipe, poked her in the eye and shoved her. She also reported that Ward hit the front door with the pipe.

The woman’s boyfriend also told officers Ward hit the front door of the home, but he accused Ward of damaging the tail gate of his Dodge Ram with the pipe, too, the report stated.

Ward’s wife told officers that after he left he called her and she told him he’d hurt her when he hit her with the pipe. According to the report, the wife quoted Ward as saying, “You know what? I also head butted you in the head and if I have to take that charge I will. You deserved every bit of it.”

Officers observed a hole in the front door and tailgate and learned the wife suffered a laceration during the alleged attack, the report indicated.

Ward was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony and criminal mischief.

He remained in the Ector County jail Thursday night on surety bonds totaling $82,000.

According to the report the couple has been separated for two years.
