ECISD leaders to “sign” first class of Para to Teacher program

Ector County ISD has announced that six instructional paraprofessionals have been invited to join the Para To Teacher opportunity.

As part of the ECISD pipeline strategy, the Para To Teacher opportunity will provide funding for up to six instructional paraprofessionals to complete their bachelor’s degree, undergo a certification program, and provide additional funding for living expenses, a news release said.

ECISD received funding support from the Texas Education Agency as part of the Texas COVID Learning Acceleration Supports (TCLAS). This portion of the funding is specifically designated for “Grow Your Own” supports. The Grow Your Own (GYO) program is designed to facilitate increased entry of qualified, diverse candidates into the teaching profession, particularly in rural and small school settings. This particular part of GYO provides supports for paraprofessionals to become certified teachers, the release said.

ECISD will hold a “Signing Day” for the six selected paraprofessionals in the Ector County ISD Administration Building Board Room, 802 N. Sam Houston Ave. The ceremony will signify the district’s commitment to the participants and their commitment to becoming a certified teacher.
